Gerlinde Thomas was born (of Austrian parents) and raised in Melbourne, Victoria. During her teens she enjoyed sketching, but did not have a lot of time to indulge her creative side. At the age of 21 in her capacity as Marketing Manager of a computer company she launched the first 16 bit micro computer in Australia and was subsequently seconded to the Silicon Valley, USA and also worked in Europe. Following her return to a Australia, she moved to Sydney with a large multinational computer company continuing in her Marketing role. In 1996 she moved to the Blue Mountains and in partnership with her husband, started a Web Design and development business. In January 2008 she had a strong desire to reinvigorate her creative side and began to sketch and dabble with acrylics, pastels, charcoal and pencil. She now prefers Oils, providing her with more fluidity and achieving greater depth to her work. Her favorite genre is figurative, with a focus on the female form. Although there continues to be a lot of controversy over creative expression, Gerlinde truly believes that it is important to see the human, in particular the female form as a beautiful creation and strives to paint women with warmth, beauty, depth and passion. |
